Chris Brashear and Peter McLaughlin

Chris Brashear is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and an emerging artist on several musical fronts. He is a charismatic singer with a high clear voice, a dynamic fiddler and guitarist, and a songwriter with a penchant for writing memorable, perhaps classic, songs on topics seldom touched on in bluegrass music. He has made multiple showcase appearances at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Fanfare, first with Kentucky Rose in 1992 and subsequently with Peter as showcase artist with Frog Mountain in 1994 and Perfect Strangers im 2000. Chris performed for two years in Italy as violinist with the Maurizio Geri Swingtet (1995-97). His first solo recording is a 1999 release from Copper Creek Records and was produced by Jody Stecher.

Chris and Peter have recently produced their debut duet CD, entitled Canyoneers, released by Copper Creek Records in June, 2003. Canyoneers includes some exciting and fresh orginal material from both Chris and Peter, along with a traditional fiddle tune and some classic numbers from the golden years of the Delmore Brothers. Chris and Peter have been playing and singing together as a duet since 1992 and their performances include sibling-like vocal harmonies, intricate arrangements and stunning instrumental virtuosity. Though steeped in bluegrass tradition, they perform many original songs and draw from a deep repository of acoustic roots music. Both are artists in residence with the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

Selected Reviews of Chris Brashear's Wanderlust

"I didn't need much more than a split second of each song to feel absolutely locked in and a smile to cross my face. Responsibility for this instant gratification must trace primarily to the voice of Chris Brashear...Throw in the work of such talents as Laurie Lewis, Peter McLaughlin and former Blue Grass Boy, Bob Black, and we're verging on perfection."
-Bluegrass Unlimited

"...it is a pleasure to be able to give it our highest recommendation as a wonderful example of soulful, spirited and tasteful tradtional bluegrass music...Probably the most impressive cuts on the album are several of his originals, the superb "Mason's Lament", "Wanderlust", and the poignant, beautifully sung, "Lost Soldier Son" - a cut that's worth the price of the album. Great job."
-Dave Freeman, County Sales

"There are some recordings that have something to really catch my attention. On Chris Brashear's Wanderlust, it was Chris' lead singing on the first song, "Mason's Lament". The beauty continued through the last tune on the project. THIS IS GOOD STUFF!"
-Frank Overstreet, SPBGMA's Bluegrass Music News

"Wanderlust is one of the best bluegrass recordings I have heard in years, which is something I do not say lightly. From the first song, "Mason's Lament", which is already a modern calssic, Brashear offers up crystal perfect orignal gems"
-Steve Goldfield, Fiddler Magazine
